The Balance of Life

It’s been a hot minute since my last newsletter.

I could say that life was so boring and there was nothing to tell you… but that would be a lie. On the contrary, life (the pandemic kind that we were all trying to just “get through”) became far more complicated, tragic, intense, joyful and downright FULL than I ever could have imagined.  I lost one of the greatest humans of my life in May, my Nana, and weeks later found myself going through one of those life altering events that rhyme with ‘schmivorce’. Ew. I then lost my house in September.  None of these huge milestones were my choosing and all caught me off-guard, to say the least. But I believe that there is always a bigger picture to life and Emily in November is feeling quite a bit more hopeful than Emily in July. Life is happening. EVERY part of it is a true blessing, even the challenging stuff. I am feeling good about what lies ahead.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have some additional live performance bookings come down the pipeline for the later part of 2021. I’ve also had an equal amount of cancellations happen for this period of time.

I guess the ultimate lesson here is balance. My wins don’t define me and neither do my losses. They are all just a part of my growth as a human on this planet and I am grateful for each and every one of these experiences… even the tough ones that test my head, heart and body.

As the year comes to close, I am incredibly excited to get to share space with some of my amazing band and crew mates at one of our favourite intimate venues and also participate in a songwriter circle with some talented folks raising money in part for the Light Of Day Organization, a community that is near and dear to my heart.

I am also HONOURED to have been nominated for a Maple Blues Award (Female Vocalist of the Year) along with many of the talented humans I both share stages with and look up to  There is SO MUCH TALENT to celebrate in our field and if you’d like to see the full list of nominees and vote for any of your favourites, please click here. Voting is open until December 1st at midnight.

I look forward to seeing more of you in person at a show in 2022!

Until then, I wish you all the best.
