HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!! Today I turn 39 years old. Why give the gritty details, you ask? Because I’m one of those people who is grateful for each year I’ve been able to adventurously journey through life. Some years are better than others but I’m guessing it’s the same for you. If I could take a snapshot of just this past month of February and send it to my younger self (age 15, 25, 35 even), I might have enjoyed some of those years a bit more. It’s the challenges in life that make us appreciate the rewarding positive experiences. Not all of my friends and loved ones made it to this age and I feel it’s partially my duty to live life to the fullest and celebrate them in my heart while I do so. February 2020 will be a hard month to beat but seeing as it’s only the second month of this fine year, it has set a standard that I have every intention of striving to uphold. Winning both New Artist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year at the Maple Blues Awards on February 3rd was MIND BLOWING!! I can’t really describe that night appropriately if I tried but the energy, emotion, and excitement were somewhere similar to the day I got married and the day I gave birth—if you think I’m sounding a bit over the top here, I’m effectively getting my point across. The night actually began for me by winning the Sapphire Video Award for my song Hold Back the River. I was so stunned and shook like a leaf while I tried to come up with some sort of acceptance speech on the fly. The nerves stayed with me and I quivered and sobbed my way through most of the rest of the night, aside from my song performance, as that’s when I’m most comfortable on stage. 😉 We celebrated the Maple Blues Awards wins with two sold-out shows this month in Kingston and Toronto and will follow it up with one more show on March 8th (International Women’s Day) in Erin, Ontario, at The Busholme (more info at www.themissemily.com). The remainder of March will consist of finishing the new album, due for release later this year. I might just get around to releasing the first single off the album between now and when I write next, so keep a lookout for that! I am VERY excited about it. The website is now updated with several new show dates, including a special celebration in Kingston for the CJAI - Amherst Island Radio Anniversary party. They have been great supporters of mine over the years and they run their station out of an old barn, so if that isn’t badass, I don’t know what is. Hahahaha! To conclude this little blog, I’d like to raise a glass to you all for being awesome supporters and being a huge part of the successes I’ve enjoyed this past year on the planet. Cheers to you, friends! I hope you celebrate my birthday for me wherever in the world you may be (and while you’re at it, give yourself a pat on the back for supporting an independent artist). 🙂 Much love, Emily
