A 2020 Personal Perspective

Like every year, 2020 has both gifted me with some mega wins and some heartbreaking losses. At times I have felt overwhelmed with excitement and hope and in other moments, I have felt like I’ve been punched in the gut.

I know I’m not the only human on planet Earth who’s felt this way this year. Perhaps our appreciation for certain aspects of life has improved? Perhaps our ability to make the best of a difficult situation has advanced our skill set? Our perspectives are different and our individual stories are different, but at the end of the day, our entire world has undergone a uniquely common experience. How bizarre, how unfortunate, how life altering, how beautiful...

I haven’t learned everything in 39 years on this planet, but it’s quite possible this year has taught me more than any other year. I hope I am a better person for it. I hope I am more gracious, kinder, more generous, more thoughtful and ultimately a better human as this year comes to a close.

Pandemic life is different for each of us depending on where we live, but I’m fortunate to have two shows to close my 2020 experience. I will get to perform with some of my band mates (AKA: my extended family) at one of my favourite venues of all time - The Cove Inn in Westport, Ontario.  On December 18th & 19th we will celebrate safely as members of an extended music loving community and I can say, with certainty, that these shows will be one of the highlights of my year.

I’d like to take a moment and thank you all for your support and your appreciation over the course of this year. Whether you shared a Miss Emily Mondays post on Facebook or attended a performance or bought a CD or digital copy of my new album online... every aspect of your thoughtfulness has warmed my heart.  I have survived many challenges in my industry over the past 20 years and I will continue to try and make the most of the challenges that lie ahead. You have helped me (and my career) survive the challenges that 2020 brought, and for that I am eternally grateful.

Wishing you all the best as we approach the final weeks of this historic year...

Much love,

Emily
